.11 The Art of Collecting

I consider myself a professional collector. When I find something I like, I typically do extensive research on whatever it is, and then get that thing in multiple colors or patterns. For example, my 25 pairs of denim. My 5 pairs of Chucks. The many sea shell dishes. My ever-growing book collection, which, by the way, I also consider an investment. Especially when the majority of what I buy now are signed, special, limited, and/or exclusive editions. Then there are the multitude of sterling and turquoise rings. I don’t buy these as much anymore, but I still wear what I have. So naturally, it should come as no surprise that I also collect a lot of vintage. T-shirts are a favorite, as well as (surprise!) denim, miniatures, glassware and crystal, curio displays, picture frames, books, and anything else I would consider weird and/or wonderful. Like the 1970’s teak wood hand chair I got for a steal on Facebook marketplace about 8 years ago.

The chair in question.

I’ve collected a lot over the years and the majority of it has been packed up. Before this year, I didn’t have the mindset or motivation needed to document, photograph, and list all of those items. Thankfully, things are brighter for me now. And I figured it’s time for all those cool pieces to see the light. So, without further ado: I will be expanding the website to incorporate my art as well as a curated collection of vintage finds and home decor. In addition, I will also be listing some bulk shells and a few of my odder items, such as a section of whitetail deer spine, and one half of a cow jaw with the teeth (I’ll show you guys how I styled the other half). And, if I can clean and dry it properly, the largest shark cranium I’ve ever found. The majority of these will be US shipping only due to export laws.

You guys will have to be patient with me as I get around to photographing and listing everything. I will procrastinate forever if I feel like the job is too big, so to make sure I’m able to get through it all, I will only be listing 2-3 pieces at a time. I will give a heads up via my Instagram and Facebook when I get these listings up, and I also plan to give a preview of the items for the following update as well. I don’t plan to do holds/deposits for previews at this time, but that could change in the future depending on how things go. If I could sell straight from Insta and skip the listing process, I most certainly would not be upset about it.

I’m really looking forward to going through all the finds I’ve hoarded over the years. Honestly, had I not held onto them as long as I did, they probably wouldn’t have been the investment that (I hope) they are today. But rest assured, I do not plan on adding any crazy markups to these items. And as always, with anything vintage, the value lies in the eye of the beholder. I think these pieces are special, and I know there are other people out there with a similar love for anything weird and wonderful. I can’t wait to share it all with you guys.
